Don't you dare throw away those adorable My Little Ponies, like my parents did, when their hair got to being a hot mess!! :)) Follow my easy step by step photo tutorial, and you too can bring back your little one's treasured My Little Pony hair back to like NEW condition.
Here's what you'll need:
* Decent Sized Tupperware (or Large Mixing Bowl)
* Sample Size Package of Ultra Downy Liquid Fabric Softener (mine is Tahitian Scent)
* Any Comb
* A Towel
* Your Messy Haired My Little Pony Dolls
HOW TO MAKE THE MIX:
* Squirt a decent amount of the Downy Fabric Softener into the container
(I would guesstimate 4 TABLESPOONS)
* Fill the Tub almost full - 3/4th full of HOT water
* Stir mixture with the comb
((See following photos on HOW TO detangle My Little Pony (ponies) Hair ))
(Below: A hot mess of my child's first My Little Pony circa 2005 to current)
(Below: Use your mixture as described above, and dunk the My Little Pony Doll's hair into the mix, squeeze the excess off, lay MLP flat on towel and brush the hair with a comb)
(Below: After Dunking and Squeezing Excess from hair, lay flat and brush with comb)
(Below: For curly hair, divide colors into sections and roll from BOTTOM UP in a crayon and lay flat until dried)
(Below: Repeat Same Step Above for Tail)
(Below: After, once My Little Pony Hair is detangled and DRY, release crayon and she's back to like new!!)
WOW!!
Such a Cheap fix, right? Don't throw away those gorgeous dolls, fix them up on the cheapy cheap! Every one's got Fabric Softener, water and a comb ;)

(Below: For My Little Pony dolls that do not require a lot of curl, just brush and wrap the hair around the legs, as shown while still damp to retain the natural curl)
I am sending these off to my niece who is "in love with My Little Pony", according to my sister.
Please feel free to ask any questions! Good luck on restoring your My Little Pony dolls to their original condition!! I wish my parents did this years ago (or at least saved my vintage 80's My Little Ponies). :))
I love it, very good job! looks great!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Terry :D !!
DeleteYou have just saved many toys from our house!
ReplyDeleteBless you for your kind words, Donna :)) Glad i could help!
ReplyDeleteNow I know what I want to do this weekend, I'll play hair salon with my daughter. Love your post, love from Denmark.
ReplyDeleteBetina, Thank you so much for your kind words :) I hope you and your little girl have fun! We love redoing things over this way :)
DeleteI can;t do it my ponys to small!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Miranda, I've done them on MLP's as small as the McDonald's toys :) Good Luck :)
DeleteYay! I'm so excited to play hairdresser today with my kids;). So you don't wash out? And do you think any fabric softener would work? Thank you for your help :)
ReplyDeleteHi, Melissa :)) - I did not rinse mine out, but that's an excellent question. I didn't use so much to leave a sticky residue, but I guess it couldn't hurt to rinse it after you've brushed it straight and then curl it around the tail:)) Good luck, sweetie, let me know how it works!
ReplyDeleteThank you!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI have a Gen 4 Fashion Style Fluttershy that I got from Love Inc and the hair is just a MESS
This is perfect, I need to do this right away!
You're welcome, Maddie :D Glad it works for you :D It's my favorite tried and true method :)
ReplyDeletePure awesomness. I have a happy girl here. Thanks so.much!
ReplyDeleteSo glad it was able to help you:D
DeleteMy Daughter Sleeps with her Rainbow Dash and her hair is a mess. I love that I can do this. Like you my mother threw my little Ponies away. Happy to bring them back. I will try this. :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck :D
DeleteThanks so much for the advice! Do you think this method would work on tue my little pony plushes? And do you rinse after the fabric softner treatment?
ReplyDeleteI didn't rinse mine, but after combing it straight, that's not a bad idea to remove excess.
Delete80% success. The hair near the body straightened, but hair is fuzzier than before at the ends. Is there another suggestion or should I trim ends with scissors
ReplyDeleteIf you haven't already, come from bottom on up. If all else fails a small trim sounds like a last resort.:)
DeleteI tried it, but how long do you soak the hair? It seemed extremely hard to comb and a lot of hair came out. Also, it doesn't look as good as your photos. I wonder if these ones are just to old. I may try it again to get more of the ends to look better
ReplyDeleteI literally dipped the hair in and pulled it out and started coming from the bottom on up as to not make the tangles more complicated. I'm sure it could be harder if the tangles were worse than what I was working with. Good luck <3
DeleteDoes this work on Barbie hair also?
ReplyDeleteYes:)
DeleteOooh i cant wait to try this and there i was thinking of snippin them off .thank you
ReplyDeleteHi! So glad you didn't have to snip the hair:)
DeleteHi There,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. I now feel more free to let my 4 year old play with my vintage pony's :-) but I also bought new ones where the tail is already messed up. I don't know how its called in Englisch. But now I don't have to cut of any hair.!!
Thank you so much again!! You will make many many girls happy! XXX

Thank you for your comment:) The vintage ponies are my favorite:) Not a fan of the new style MLP at all:) Glad this worked for you also:) Enjoy your day!
DeleteWorked wonderful on my mlp!! Do you think it would work on a vintage pj sparkles? Scared to try, don't want to mess her up and she still works ;)
ReplyDeleteGood question. It should work on any synthetic doll hair:) just brush from the bottom on up slowly. :)
